Join the foot-traffic check workshop in Paderborn

Join the foot-traffic check workshop in Paderborn Paderborn was picked for the NRW Fußverkehrs-Check. Residents, groups, and the city walk inner-city streets, then meet in the Historisches Rathaus to turn notes into measures. The close workshop on 8 October 2026 is one night in a pattern you can copy: audit pavements together, then ask the council to keep the work going. What you can do - Sit in the close workshop on Thursday 8 October 2026 at 18:00 CEST in the large council hall, Rathausplatz 1 (no booking listed) - Use the same page to see how the July kick-off and September walks were run, if you want to propose a later walk-audit - Write the city mobility team if you cannot attend that night but want the results How it works The land programme funds a short public sequence: kick-off, two walks, then a close workshop. Findings feed foot-traffic planning. Solarpunker does not lead the walks. Why it matters A public walk-audit makes pavement width, shade, and crossings a shared civic task, not only a drawing in an office.

Use the Historic Town Hall as a walk-audit pin

Use the Historic Town Hall as a walk-audit pin The Historisches Rathaus is the civic meeting point for this foot-traffic work. After 8 October 2026, treat the square as a place to ask for the next public pavement session. What you can do - Read the Fußverkehrs-Check page for results and later dates - Meet neighbours on Rathausplatz and copy the walk-audit idea on your own streets - Write the mobility team if you want the city to keep hosting walks How it works The NRW check is a short funded sequence. Local walking quality still needs later public nights. Solarpunker does not schedule them. When & where Recurring civic pin, no single date. Historisches Rathaus, Rathausplatz 1, 33098 Paderborn. Pin 51.7189, 8.7575. Why it matters Keeping a town-hall pin on the map reminds the city that pavement quality is a public job. Source & repost Shared here so you can get inspired or find action already happening near you. Solarpunker does not own or organise it. Source: Fußverkehrs-Check.

Walk Cologne with the Zero Waste Schweif

Walk Cologne with the Zero Waste Schweif Grab the Schweif booklet and one to four friends, then wander your Kiez with small tasks that help you spot waste, reuse, and resources in everyday streets. No tour guide: you set the pace. How it works - Pick up a booklet at partner cafés, unverpackt shops, or Zero Waste Köln info stands (hours vary by location). - Work through quizzes and observation prompts designed in Cologne, usable in any urban neighbourhood. - Optional deep-dive facts on the project page after you have tried the riddles yourself. Why it matters Cologne burns roughly 2,000 tonnes of waste every day; the Schweif turns that abstract number into curiosity about what we throw away and what could stay in the loop.

Get a Biotonne: close the compost loop in Cologne

Get a Biotonne: close the compost loop in Cologne About 40% of what lands in the grey residual bin is compostable organic waste. In Niehl it is burned: costing money, CO₂, and fertile matter that could return to parks and gardens as torffreier Kölner Kompost. What you can do - Ask your landlord for the free brown Biotonne (tenants can use Zero Waste Köln’s postcard template on their project page). - Line the bin with newspaper, keep it in the shade, and skip “compostable” plastic bags: they need industrial conditions Cologne’s plants do not offer. - Buy Kölner Kompost or Blumenerde from AWB/AVG outlets (the Verein advocates more neighbourhood pick-up points). Why it matters Separate bio collection has been mandatory in Germany since 2015, but Cologne households still need to request the bin. Less bio in residual waste can mean a smaller (cheaper) grey bin.

Greener carnival: sustainable Veedelszüge in Cologne The AG Nachhaltige Veedelzüge brings together BKB Verlag, Cradle to Cradle NGO Köln, Scientists for Future Köln/Bonn, and Zero Waste Köln. What the AG offers - Growing guide “Zoch ohne Driss” with tips for costumes, throws, and parade logistics. - A shared database of ideas and field reports (filter “Idee Karneval”): submit your best practice with photo rights. - Second-hand costume markets and swaps across Cologne in January/February (dates on their page). - Mini booklet giveaway “Pänz feiern Jeck - ganz ohne Dreck” for participating parades. Get involved Ideas, photos, and questions: AG-Nachhaltige-Veedelszuege@posteo.de Why it matters Karneval draws huge crowds; lighter throws and reused costumes cut parade-day waste without dampening the festivity.

Rescue deposit glass at street festivals in Cologne

Rescue deposit glass at street festivals in Cologne At parades and mega-events, returnable glass often misses the deposit system. Zero Waste Köln volunteers collect bottles so they reach supermarkets and breweries instead of residual waste or incineration. What you can do - Join parade and festival glass collections, email aktionen@zerowastekoeln.de - Bring gloves and sturdy bags; many collectors focus on plastic, glass needs extra hands Recent impact (from their project stories) - Sülzer Veedelszug 2025: 600 bottles with KG Grüne Rheinfunken (logistics: Gaffel). - Cologne Pride 2025: 6,500 bottles with Rheinfunken, Cradle2Cradle, Zukunft feiern, Grüngürtelrosen, Veedelperlen. - gamescom festival: 120 beer crates of empties with Feiermacher. Why it matters Every bottle returned to Pfand keeps glass in the brewery loop instead of residual waste or street litter after mega-events.
