Share harvests with Solawi Frankfurt

Share harvests with Solawi Frankfurt Solawi Frankfurt is a consumer cooperative that shares the costs and risks of Birkenhof in Egelsbach. Members receive weekly organic vegetables, fruit, and eggs while helping with delivery runs and farm logistics. What you can do - Read how solidarity farming works on frankfurt-im-wandel.de/projekt/solawi - Contact info@solawi-ffm.de about joining the coming harvest year - Volunteer for delivery coordination or distribution days in Frankfurt How it works The group estimates annual farm costs together, pays a fair share to the grower, and splits the harvest. New households are welcome each season. Why it matters Solawi keeps peri-urban soil in food production and gives city residents a direct stake in how their meals are grown.

Close Frankfurt's compost loop at RMB

Close Frankfurt's compost loop at RMB RMB Rhein-Main Biokompost runs one of the region's modern bio-waste plants for FES Frankfurt. Kitchen and green waste ferments into biogas in about 21 days, then becomes quality compost in parallel: power for the grid and soil for your plot. What you can do - Load compost into your car at the Kofferraumservice (Mon–Fri 08:00–16:00, Sat 09:00–12:00) - Buy loose or bagged compost and garden products at the RMB Shop on site - Plan your visit via the RMB site (note the current access from Riederhofstraße) - Pair a pickup with home or community composting so Frankfurt's organics stay in local beds How it works Residents and gardeners visit Peter-Behrens-Str. 8 in Frankfurt-Ostend. The plant covers its own energy needs and feeds surplus electricity into the public grid while producing natural compost for gardens. Why it matters When bio-waste stays in a closed loop, you skip peat imports and see where your soil actually comes from: builder energy, not anonymous bags.

Garden courtyards with Klimawerkstatt Ginnheim in Frankfurt

Garden courtyards with Klimawerkstatt Ginnheim in Frankfurt In Ginnheim, Klimawerkstatt and the Ginnheimer Kirchplatzgärtchen turn courtyards, roofs, and the church square into food and shade in Frankfurt. During Foodtura they host a courtyard walk and a bring-and-share picnic between the baroque church and Gasthaus Adler. What you can do - Walk the Hinterhofhimbeeren & Fassadenwein tour on 19 September (free) - Bring a homemade dish to the Stadtteil Picknick the same afternoon - Email kirchplatzgaertchen@posteo.de if you want to help tend beds after the festival - Follow Klimawerkstatt on Instagram for later dates How it works The garden is a neighbourhood project, not a ticketed farm. Show up, share food, and ask how to join watering and planting rounds. Why it matters Edible courtyards cool streets, feed pollinators, and give a village square a reason to linger.

Learn fermentation and Slow Food cooking in Frankfurt

Learn fermentation and Slow Food cooking in Frankfurt During Foodtura, Slow Food Frankfurt, a pinch of salt, Frajda, and Die Fleckenbühler run hands-on kitchens: lacto-fermentation in a greenhouse, water kefir, leftover-bread kwas, vegetarian Slow Food menus, pasta, and a wild-herb dinner. What you can do - Book the Kooperative fermentation workshop (Pay-What-You-Can seats exist) - Join Slow Food at Paulinum: cook, taste olive oil, or make pasta - Bring stale bread to Kwas at Frajda - Cook Kräuterküche with Die Fleckenbühler (Pay-What-You-Can seats exist) How it works Most workshops need advance booking and a fee listed on the event page. Write to the host if the price is a barrier. You leave with jars, dough skill, or a shared table. Why it matters Preserving and cooking together is how regional food stays joyful instead of becoming a lecture.
