Pyrmont Ultimo Landcare volunteers run bushcare (volunteer days to care for native bushland) on the city peninsula. You can weed, plant peninsula-native species, and watch birds return beside harbour light-rail green strips.
What you can do in Sydney
- Meet the group on Sunday mornings, usually 8:30 to 10:30, including sessions around Wentworth Park light rail (Pyrmont Ultimo Landcare about us)
- Work Wednesday mornings at rotating sites from Pyrmont to Ultimo when you contact the organiser for the day's location
- Join National Tree Day or Clean Up Australia events the group supports
- Learn plant IDs and hand-weeding techniques with tools the group supplies
How to join
Everyone is welcome. Contact the group through the website for the next Sunday or Wednesday meet-up point. Optional membership fees apply only if you want to vote at meetings; volunteering itself has no charge.
Why it matters in Sydney
Urban bush pockets cool streets and give small birds corridors between harbour parks. Each session leaves a visible strip of native green along the commute.
Good to know
- Do I need bushcare experience? No. Wear closed shoes, a hat, and clothes you can soil; the group lends gloves and tools.
- Can children join? Children are welcome with an adult; the FAQ asks that kids under 12 stay with a guardian.
- What should I bring? A water bottle and sun protection; the group provides tools and guidance on site.
