Help BUND Wildnisinseln hedges in Potsdam

Since 2001 BUND Potsdam has leased Wildnisinseln in the former BUGA / Volkspark: small process-protection plots that even BUND volunteers do not enter. Twice a year, in spring and autumn, helpers add trunks and brush to the layered hedges so they stay about one and a half metres high. University of Potsdam biologists survey the ungrazed interior.

How it works

Hedge days twice a year. This is edge work, not a picnic inside the plots. Ask for the next spring or autumn date.

Why it matters

A waist-high hedge is enough to let an urban mini-wilderness write its own plant list.
