Banco Tupinambá runs solidarity finance in Baía do Sol, Mosqueiro, so ribeirinhos bank, borrow, and trade without leaving the island economy of Belém.
What you can do in Belém
- Open accounts and move the Moqueio social currency (one Moqueio equals one real) among Baía do Sol producers and shops (DOL report)
- Request microcredit for local production or consumption without traditional credit scores, backed by neighbour guarantees described in the story
- Partner as an organisation that buys or donates through the bank so income stays in the community
- Learn from horta, honey, and women's kitchen projects the institute lists as part of its solidarity portfolio
How to join
Contact the Instituto Banco Tupinambá team through the channels published in partner profiles and press coverage before travelling to Mosqueiro. Banking is rooted in Baía do Sol trust networks; staff explain Moqueio and digital e-dinheiro steps in plain language.
When & where
Service happens in Baía do Sol and nearby Mosqueiro points cited in coverage; hours follow community assembly rhythms rather than a downtown branch schedule.
Why it matters in Belém
Amazon river neighbourhoods often lose wealth to mainland banks. Moqueio keeps purchases, wages, and loans cycling among fishers, beekeepers, and market cooks who live on the water's edge.
Good to know
- Is Mosqueiro far from central Belém? Yes. Plan boat or road time; the bank serves the island district, not a high-street branch.
- Does the bank seek profit? Community banks reinvest surpluses locally, as described in solidarity-economy reporting on the project.
- Can I donate? Crowdfunding campaigns appear in partner pages when the institute needs equipment after setbacks; read terms before giving.
