Musicon in Roskilde is the district where circular demolition of factory Hall 12 was planned with a full material audit. You can walk the old concrete-works ground and see a neighbourhood built from that site.
What you can do in Musicon
- Walk the public streets and yards of Musicon (CityLoops circular demolition)
- Notice which old sheds and open ground remain beside newer buildings
- Ask Roskilde to attach a pre-demolition audit to the next demolition tender
- If you pay for a job, copy the Værdibyg steps: survey, set a reuse aim, then tender
How to join
The Hall 12 audit was done by Golder for the city: desk study, field study, and a plan for each pile, plus a store of saved parts. That work is finished. The district is still there to visit. There is no ticket and no volunteer shift for the old demolition. Come as a walker.
When & where
Musicon, Roskilde, Denmark. Go to the district, not to a marked door for Hall 12. The city bought the 200,000 square metre concrete factory and gravel pit in 2003. Recurring: the streets are public. Check the city pages if you want a guided note.
Why it matters in Musicon
The audit happened early so designers and the demolition contract could use the same list. CityLoops says that once a contractor is hired, they will not add this screening unless the tender already required it. Walking the district shows why that timing matters: the old works are becoming streets, homes, and culture space.
Good to know
- Can I see Hall 12 itself? Hall 12 was partly taken down after a material list. It is not a museum room. Visit the district.
- What should a tender say? Require the audit and the selective take-down before the contract is signed.
