Kiiskinmäenkatu is where the Pankalampi health centre stood until a circular demolition in 2021. Tuukkala hospital, the second site, was taken down the same year. Both are patterns you can ask the city to repeat.
What you can do in Mikkeli
- Stand on Kiiskinmäenkatu and see the former health-centre block (Mikkeli)
- Ask Building Services to attach the CityLoops sorting rules to the next contract
- Ask crews to clear doors, furniture, and easy parts before the heavy demolition, so those parts can be sold
- Visit Mikkelipuisto for granite that left the Tuukkala yard for the park
How to join
You are visiting former sites, not a live crew. Pankalampi was about 9,855 square metres: health centre, dental clinic, and a garage. The city recovered a fire escape for a day care and sold the backup power plant. A few windows went to two people. Tuukkala had been empty since 2010, so almost no furniture could be saved. Oak boards from balconies and the doorway became a table top and cutting boards at ESEDU.
When & where
Kiiskinmäenkatu, 50130 Mikkeli, Finland. Stand on the street. The buildings are gone. The health centre stood on this street. Tuukkala was a second site in the Tuukkala district, vacant for more than ten years before the 2021 works. Recurring: there is no open hour. The streets are public.
Why it matters in Mikkeli
More than 99 percent of the demolition material was sorted into separate piles. At Tuukkala that was 9,019 tonnes, with more than 8,000 tonnes of concrete and brick. The lesson to copy is the contract line: name the piles, name who strips the building, and check the piles while the work is going.
Good to know
- Who did the work? Ahosen Palvelut of Jyväskylä at Pankalampi. Terra Infra of Kouvola at Tuukkala. Metsäsairila took the sorted loads.
- Can I collect leftover bricks? The 2021 sales are over. Ask the city about the next contract.
